Matthew "Matt" Powers has been a teacher, researcher, and leader in design education for over 20 years. He is Director of Landscape Architecture and Undergraduate Programs at Clemson University. Matt is a distinguished alumnus of West Virginia University and holds a MLA and PhD from Virginia Tech.
Matt teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in architecture, landscape architecture, and interdisciplinary doctoral programs. Matt has taught at three different universities and in Genova, Italy. He has directed bachelors, masters, doctoral, off-campus, and interdisciplinary academic programs.
Matt is an expert in design education. He is author of the book Self-Regulated Design Learning and published numerous papers. Matt has given over 50 presentations on design pedagogy in five different countries. He was keynote speaker at the 2018 Annual Meeting of the European Council of Landscape Architecture Schools in Ghent, Belgium.
Matt is available as a speaker, consultant, instructional designer, and design critic.
